Vicky Chock’s studio

A recent tour to Vicky Chock’s studio was held Saturday, October 14, 2006. We visited her Maunalani Heights studio, the birthplace of her delightful and whimsical Tang Dynasty ladies.  Vicky is well known for these humorous, elaborately robed figures bearing fruit or tea cups on their heads!

We had a very informative and fun time and were lucky that the tour took place on Saturday, the day before the big quake and power outage! We were introduced to Vicky's wonderful, whimsical and charming characters as she spoke of her influences and inspirations for these much-in-demand figures.

She shared with us the method of making, painting and firing them all in her studio. Afterwards we all sat down to a yummy Chinese-themed lunch of assorted salads, wine and desserts and enjoyed the wonderful surroundings of an artist's home with a terrific view of Diamond Head.
