ConTempoThis glittery spring gala is our premier fundraising event. It features the sale of selected contemporary art created by artists from the mainland as well as Hawai’i. "If the guests don’t go home saying, “O what a night!” then we haven’t done our job,” says Cherye Pierce who chaired the 2011 event yet again after a most successful 2008 event that defied all fundraising expectations--even in light of the worst stock market disaster in most of our collective memories. ArtSpreeIt’s the best family event on the island! One Saturday in July, TCM is open free for the public to enjoy performing artists with music and dance, demonstrating artists in a variety of mediums, viewing galleries with docents and creating some unique art to take home. The 18th annual ArtSpree 2011, presented by the Friends of TCM, was again chaired by Brigitte Hahn-Miller and her capable committee of volunteers. CLICK HERE FOR INFORMATION ON THE 2011 EVENT
Art Lovers WorkshopsOctober 30, 2011 - Painting on Wood Workshop Sabra Feldstein held a workshop at Linekona that covered aspects of how to paint on wood. Class brought items from home that varied from stools and trays to boxes and wooden shoes. Click HERE for photos of the workshop. May 14, 2011 - Collage Workshop ArtLover's workshops, presented by the Friends of TCM, are two to three-hour sessions designed for adults with busy schedules who'd like to do something creative. This next ArtLover's workshop "Basic Techniques in Acrylic Painting" will be held at TCM on Saturday, May 14. The presenter is Susan Rogers-Aregger . Click here for details. October 23, 2010 - Silver Clay Workshop The Silver Clay Workshop was a big hit. We had 18 students attend. Click here for photos of the workshop. The picture of the book cover is a book that Gordon Uyehara recommended to those of us who would like to learn more and the pictures of the elaborate, large finished pieces of jewelry were SAMPLES of Gordon's art work/jewelry and not student work. The students made very simple, beginning level pieces that were pendants, charms or a small broach. The workshops will cover a variety of media. No expertise is required, just a desire to create and have some fun. MARCH 9, 2008 - Art Lovers' Workshop - Chris Reiner The Friends of TCM sponsored another creative Art Lovers Workshop for adults at the museum. Art Lovers Workshop at The Contemporary Museum On Sunday, March 9, 2008.
Artist Chris Reiner taught how to create a sculpture from recycled materials,
bits and bobs or any other item you would like to bring to the class.
No experience was required and only the desire to be
creative is.
