This bench is based on a classical Chinese bench form which was common in
homes up until the early Twentieth Century. Here, the artists have
contrasted time honored materials and techniques fine wood joinery, fired
porcelain tile with contemporary fiber optics. 'Trans' of the title 'Trans
7' refers to the transformers which power the colored lights, while '7' is
customarily a lucky number and signifies the days of the week. The natural
crystals and sprays of illuminated fiber recall a mythical phoenix rising.
