Satoru Abe is a well established sculptor here in Hawaii. His large scale bronze works are installed in many public locations throughout the state. John Koga is Abe’s protégé, and has been deeply influenced by the example that Abe has set in making an artist’s life in these islands. Here, the two artists collaborate – Abe fashioning the tree-like metal forms, and Koga adding his trademark pondering figures, as well as carving the stone seat. This inter-generational work is testament to artistic accomplishment and mutual admiration.
