Bio of Lonny Tomono

Lonny Tomono was born and lives on the Big Island of Hawaii. He is most recognized for his sculptural work that joins traditional Japanese wood craft with its respect for materials and the marks of hand and tool.

EDUCATION

1972 University of Hawaii, Hilo; Fine Arts
1973 San Francisco Art Institute; Sculpture
1994-81 San Francisco Zen Center; Apprenticed with Makoto Imal
(Japanese Temple Carpenter)
1982-87 Apprenticed with Seiichiro Kitamura (5th Generation Japanese
Builder) in Kyoto Japan.
