Christopher Reiner was born in Annapolis, Maryland in 1969. He moved to Hawaii
in 1981 at age 11, having frequently moved around the Continental US. After
receiving a BFA from the Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida,
he moved back to Hawaii and lived on Kauai making art and furniture for eight
years, returning to Oahu in 2004. This award winning artist has participated in
numerous exhibits across the state of Hawaii.
Working with what he terms "Obtainium," Reiner creates humorous, thought
provoking pieces using three-dimensional space with a careful eye for detail.
Obtainium is often procured while driving around ahead of the bulk pick up crew
with a discerning eye. At garage and estate sales, Chris prefers the broken item
with missing parts or grandpa's basket of nuts, bolts and springs that usually
get discarded at the end of the day.
His sculpture are often meticulously details, demanding many hours to execute.
Additionally, collectiong, sorting and cleaning Obtainium also consumes a good
amount of his time. Reiner works out of his shop, where he also designs and
builds custom furniture. View more of his work at
